Look, Build, Play
Students co-create a magical space for the community.
During the pandemic, students at Waterbury’s Children’s Community School were in desperate need of connection, self expression, and nature. In response, we created a hands-on, collaborative, student-led fort building project at a local nature preserve.

In class, students studied indigenous and natural building techniques, then illustrated the most magical space they could imagine.
On site, they practiced using hand and power tools and planned the build. Foragers gathered materials while builders placed and attached them. The final fort was a sprawling getaway complete with a tunnel.
